About us

The school was closed but it is still at the heart of the community.

Although the old school has closed its doors, the building remains at the heart of life in Carreglefn. Today, it is a welcoming place where people of all ages come together to learn, socialise and enjoy activities.

Our story - a journey through the years

The centre has seen many changes over the years, but it's purpose remains and that is to serve the local community.

1900

A new school

The new school in Carreglefn opened in 1900, providing education for children from the village and the surrounding area.

1995

The Community Hall

The Community Hall was added, giving the community the opportunity to use the building for activities and events.

2024

The school closes

After serving the community for over 120 years, the school closed its doors.

2025

A new chapter

We are working together to secure the building’s future as a Community Centre – a place for everyone.

Our mission - A Centre for All

Our aim is to create an inclusive, welcoming and vibrant community centre that offers opportunities for people of all ages. We want to support wellbeing, learning and social interaction, bringing people together through activities, events and services that reflect the needs and interests of our community.

Our Centre Today

Thanks to the hard work of our volunteers, the support of Mechell Community Council and the local community, together with grant funding, the Centre continues to develop. Renovation work has improved the building, which is now used for a wide range of activities and events, offering facilities for everyone.
