Warm Spaces Lunches Extended Until the End of June

By popular demand, the much-loved Warm Spaces lunches will now continue until the end of June.

Originally, the Warm Spaces grant covered meetings only until the end of March, but such was the enthusiasm from attendees that organisers were keen to keep the gatherings going. The lunches have brought together old friends and neighbours, alongside people who have recently moved into the area and wanted to make new connections. Some attendees have also enjoyed the opportunity to practise their newly acquired Welsh language skills in a relaxed and friendly setting.

To help continue the lunches on a monthly basis, it was agreed that everyone would contribute £3 towards their meal — a move that has proved very successful. The events continue to attract an average of 30 people each month, all enjoying good food, lively conversation and plenty of laughter.

With Spring in the air, the menu has also had a seasonal refresh. Soup has made way for salads and new potatoes — and by all accounts, they have gone down very well indeed!

The final session before the summer break will take place on 29 June 2026, when guests can look forward to a delicious afternoon tea-themed lunch before the gatherings pause until September.

The Hall Committee would also like to extend sincere thanks to the staff and management of Lastra Farm Restaurant for their sponsorship, generosity and continued support, which has helped make the lunches such a success.

Digital Photography

After an interesting and informative 8 weeks the Digital Photography Course is coming to an end. The above gallery showcasing the participants’ best photographs at the end of the course clearly demonstrates the progress and creativity developed throughout the sessions. The quality of the work produced reflects just how much had been learned and achieved during the course.

The 12 participants thoroughly enjoyed the course and were surprised by how quickly the sessions flew by. The course struck a great balance between informative teaching and practical, hands-on activities, making every session both engaging and enjoyable.

The atmosphere was friendly, relaxed, and welcoming, with plenty of opportunities to socialise and get to know new people. Participants learned a great deal about composition, lighting, exposure, and editing, and there was a noticeable improvement in the quality of their photographs.

One of the most positive aspects of the course was how accessible it was — showing just how powerful a phone camera can be when used effectively. The tutor made learning fun and encouraged everyone to experiment and be creative.

It is no surprise that participants enjoyed the course so much that an extra three sessions were added at the end. The course would be highly recommended to anyone wanting to improve their photography skills in a supportive and enjoyable environment.

A Successful Spring Fayre

Our inaugural Spring Fayre proved to be a wonderful success, with a fantastic turnout from both the local community and visitors from further afield. The event brought together people of all ages, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout the day.

Attendees fully embraced the spirit of the fayre, enthusiastically taking part in a range of traditional games and activities. Many visitors commented on how lovely it was to experience such a strong sense of community, with neighbours, friends and new faces all coming together to enjoy the occasion.

The fayre also provided a great showcase for local producers and businesses. We would like to extend our thanks to Y Cwt Mwg, Bryn Coch Cakes, Creigiau Bach Succulents, Two Bridges Wales and The Giggling Goat Farm Shop and Bakery for supporting the event and setting out their excellent wares for visitors to enjoy. This is what the Giggling Goat had to say about the event – “Sunday’s Spring fair in Carreglefn was brilliant! What a turn-out for such a small village! The sense of community was amazing! Everyone involved should be proud! Needless to say, the sourdoughs flew out this weekend all ‘specials’ sold out within the hour on both Saturday and Sunday, both days fully sold out by close of play!!"

The plant stall, stocked with locally grown plants, was extremely popular and was nearly sold out by the end of the day. The book stall also proved a great success, attracting keen readers and bargain hunters alike.

Meanwhile, refreshments flew out of the kitchen, where our experienced chefs kept everyone well fed throughout the afternoon. The hot dogs in particular were a huge hit with visitors.

A huge thank you goes to everyone who attended, volunteered, donated, supported and helped make the first Spring Fayre such an enjoyable and memorable event. We look forward to building on this success in the years to come.

Egg Clapping

A traditional Anglesey Easter pastime proved a cracking success as more than 50 adults and children came together at the Centre to take part in the popular Egg Clapping celebrations.

The event helped keep one of Anglesey’s much-loved traditions alive, bringing the community together to enjoy traditional activities, local heritage, and Easter fun for all ages.

Organisers were delighted with the fantastic turnout and the enthusiasm shown by participants, with many praising the event for celebrating an important part of the island’s culture.

The project was supported through one of Menter Môn’s programmes, Balchder Bro Anglesey, which is funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, alongside support from Isle of Anglesey County Council.

Organisers hope the success of this year’s event will inspire even more people to take part in future celebrations and continue the proud tradition of Egg Clapping on Anglesey for generations to come.

Your Feedback

This is the result of the recent evaluation survey for ‘Keeping warm together’ sessions. As you see the response has been very positive. All agreed that the event was well planned, enjoyable, welcoming and inclusive.

Amongst the suggestions on how the Centre can further meet the needs of the community were requests for further activities that included community courses and wellbeing activities. Working with Coleg Menai and the Anglesey and Gwynedd ACL Partnership we are able to offer 2, 2 and a half hour courses over a period of 8 weeks. These courses are open to all, no matter where you live or how old you are (as long as it is not school age). If we are to continue to offer these activities we need your support, so if you are interested in joining these sessions please sign up for them as soon as possible.

Developing the Garden

We recently received a grant from Medrwn Môn to help renovate the garden and to prepare it for the Spring and Summer. The money has enabled us to buy two benches and a couple of planters, these will look fantastic in the Spring, thanks to Medrwn Môn for their generous contribution.

Early in January a group of volunteers came together to start on the work, by repairing, weeding and bulb planting. There’s no doubt that the fruit of their labour will become obvious come Springtime.

We hope that villages and people from the local area will use the garden, either to sit and relax in a beautiful and peaceful setting or to take the opportunity to do a bit of gardening.

Keeping Warm Together

A grant from Medrwn Môn has enabled us to host Keeping Warm Together events. Warm Spaces grants are funding opportunities, often from government or foundations (like the Welsh Gov, Asda Foundation, Warm Welcome Campaign), that help charities and community groups provide free, safe, and warm places for people during cold weather and the cost-of-living crisis, covering energy, food, or activities to combat isolation.

It started with 17 of us, by now more than 30 attend regularly.

Clwb y cen

Clwb y Cen was established in 2013 with the aim to develop opportunities for the over 50s to meet over a cuppa, to participate in a range of activities and to be able to continue learning through presentations from guest speakers and by visiting local places of interest. This also contributed to making our community age friendly. This was the brain child of Adrian Parry and Ann Lewis; and so to the name, Cen is the local name for Carreglefn so the name means the Carreglefn Club.

A financial contribution from he Mechell Community Council helped to establish the Club and further financial support helped to maintain it. The Club has also benefitted from grants from Medrwn Môn which has allowed it to organise extra activities eg Dr Marian Gwyn gave a presentation on slavery and the Pennant family, a visit to Penrhyn Castle, Line Dancing Sessions, Christmas Dinner, St David’s Day Dinner as well as many other guest speakers. To top it all however, we had piano recitals from 2 professional pianists, Mr Arwel Jones and Mr Iwan Owen (both born in Carreglefn).

The club started with two members, the current membership is 25. It meets once a month on a Wednesday afternoon, the meetings are bilingual and it is open to everybody no matter where you live. There is an annual fee of £10 and a £2 admission fee to each meeting. If you are interested in joining please Contact us.
